Neuro-Linguistic-Programming - NLP

WHAT IS NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING?

NLP is considered to be a significant concept for communication and change, which is especially demanded and used by people who are professionally involved in communication. NLP was founded in 1975 by the linguist John Grinder and the psychologist Richard Bandler. Both developed NLP consciously in demarcation to scientific psychology. They were looking for effective short-term therapeutic methods and worked closely with Virginia Satir and Milton H. Erickson, the most important therapists of Gestalt, hypno, and behavioral therapy at their time. Robert Dilts, another of NLP's most important developers, describes it as a behavioral model and a system of clearly defined techniques. NLP examines the patterns or "programming" created by the interaction between the brain (neuro), language (linguistic), and body that can produce both effective and ineffective behavior.

WHAT ARE THE IMPORTANT ASSUMPTIONS OF NLP?

  • People respond to their subjective mapping of reality and not to external reality.
  • The mind and body are parts of the same cybernetic system and influence each other reciprocally.
  • There is a positive intention underlying all behavior, and there is at least one context in which it is useful.
  • The result of communication is the feedback that the individual receives. There is no such thing as error or failure.
  • If one person can learn to do something specific, basically all people can.
  • People have all the resources they need to achieve a change they seek.

According to Robert Dilts, the combination of the first two basic assumptions gave rise to all the models and techniques of NLP.

WHAT IS NLP NOT?

NLP is neither a miracle cure nor the devil's work. With NLP you cannot manipulate or control people. Whoever promises that harms the positive aspects of NLP.
